The Bull Run and Devens present ‘Devens Rock 4 Warriors‘; a concert to celebrate wounded veterans and their families. This inaugural concert will feature Americas’ first Wounded Warrior band, VETTED, who aim to entertain, comfort, exalt, and help soldiers who are struggling to gain balance and normalcy. They have also enlisted The Persuasions, Hot Tuna (acoustic) , Lo Cash, and GE Smith (SNL, Hall & Oates, Dylan) and his all star band to salute the troops on Sunday, May 17th from 4-8 pm.
Devens Rock 4 Warriors’ mission is to launch an annual concert that will connect like-minded communities to continue to deliver help to those in need.
They will also be giving away a “GE Smith Signature Fender Telecaster” to a lucky winner. A raffle will be conducted on air, on our websites, on FB and at the doors, to be given to the lucky recipient at the concert. $30 to enter, with all proceeds of this going to Wounded Warrior Project.
Check out this nice interview with Jorma at the Acoustic Guitar Magazine Studio. He talks about the origins of Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna and Fur Peace Ranch. Jorma plays: “I Am the Light of this World” and “Embryonic Journey.” Jorma also performs “Terrible Operation” which appears on his new studio album “Ain’t In No Hurry.”

Our friend, Jim Clash, at Forbes Magazine has a nice review of Jack’s 70th Birthday show at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Before the show, Jim interviewed Capt. Mark Kelly, Astronaut and former shuttle pilot, at the Explorer’s Club. Jack and Jorma sat in on the interview then invited Mark to the Beacon show.

Everyone on the Bus! Hot Tuna hits the road for a summer tour through the midwest. The last stop on the tour is Fur Peace Ranch for the Arts and Minds festival. Check out the dates and locations below. Also, a big announcement is coming at the end of the month about Hot Tuna’s annual New York City Beacon Theater Show! Be sure to be there!
Check out this fun Esquire blog that mentions Hot Tuna. See you on the bus!
Master Hot Tuna Archivist, Jason Greenberg, has put together a new website that list the shows available in the live release catalog. It’s called www.HotTunaLive.com. He has also released a 24bit (better than CD quality) recording of the 2010 NYC Beacon shows (Jorma’s 70th B-day!). Check it out at HDTracks.
Hot Tuna hits the road for some sizzling summer fun with Leon Russell. Acoustic Hot Tuna will be playing this first four gigs of this run. For the remaining four shows, Electric Hot Tuna will be taking the stage with special guests Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams and Justin Guip on drums.
We particularly like this description of “Good Shepard”:
Kaukonen and Casady revisited their Jefferson Airplane Alma Mater with “Good Shepard,” transforming the psychedelic pedal-work of the original into plaintive finger-picking, growling liquid bass, gypsy Django Reinhardt excursions and acoustic, prog flights of fancy before snapping back like a rubber band to a hill country stomp.
Attention Hot Tuna Fans! If you were thinking of going to the Hot Tuna shows in New York City this fall, you better act quick! Word is that there are less than 200 tickets left for the Friday, November 22, 2013 show at the Concert Hall@NYSEC. And the Saturday November 23, 2013 show at the Beacon Theater is over 50% sold. So we are estimating that the Concert Hall will sell out in the next couple of weeks and The Beacon sometime in October, a good month before the show.
So, just a heads up to all you procrastinators out there (you know who you are), buy your tickets soon or you might not have a chance. Good Luck!
And to all those fans who have already bought tickets, Thank You! and we’ll see in November!
