Hot Tuna returns to The Beacon Theatre in New York City for their annual electric shows, Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st. Past years performances have been off the hook with the addition of special guests since we celebrated Jorma’s 70th Birthday. This year is shaping up to be a hum-dinger! Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams will be there as they have for the past few years. Bill Kirchen, Steve Kimock and G.E. Smith will also make a return performance to these annual gigs. Cindy Cashdollar, who hasn’t played with Jorma much since the Blue Country Heart days will be on hand for the weekend . . . there are sure to be some command performances from Jorma’s Grammy Nominated album from a decade ago. Jorma’s 70th Birthday Bash at the Beacon Theater in NYC on December 3 & 4, 2010 was a very special night, if not a historic one. Electric Hot Tuna and Friends lit up both nights with straight on rock and roll. It was a celebration of Jorma’s Birthday for sure, but it was also a celebration of a lifetime of friendships and musical camaraderie.  The night was captured on video by a small crew with hand held cameras. Shot in standard definition, the video was strictly meant for personal archival footage. But the concert was so good and music so great that everyone decided it needed to be released. So here you go! The DVD is a collection of selected songs from both nights of Jorma’s Birthday at the Beacon Theatre in NYC, December 3 & 4, 2010.
Enjoy!

Just had to post this picture taken by the Hot Tuna Road Manager Phil Jacobs during the spring Electric Hot Tuna tour. The woman in the photo, Molly, was a friend of the woman running the merch table. Phil couldn’t help but notice the striking similarities between Molly and the woman on the cover of Hot Tuna’s CD Steady As She Goes.

What do you think? Know any other women who bear a resemblance to the CD cover girl?

Hot Tuna is playing Mountain Jam Again!

We have lots of friends playing the festival! You never know who might sit in on some Electric Hot Tuna!

Originally conceived in 2005 as a single-day celebration of Radio Woodstock’s 25th anniversary, Mountain Jam has blossomed into a four-day, multi-stage event, featuring onsite camping, and one of the northeast’s most pristine natural amphitheaters. Over the years, Mountain Jam has hosted some of the top names in live music, including The Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh & Friends, Bob Weir & RatDog, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Ray LaMontagne, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, Yonder Mountain String Band

Gov’t Mule will headline Mountain Jam for the seventh consecutive year on Saturday, June 4. Gov’t Mule’s two-set performance at Mountain Jam VII will be one of only a few select appearances for the group in 2011. The newly formed Warren Haynes Band, a soul-infused ensemble will make its debut northeast festival appearance, headlining on Friday, June 3.

Following the sellout of Mountain Jam’s Holiday Presale tickets, Festival Passes are now available at Early Bird prices for $142.50, and with camping for $172.50. For an additional $25, attendees can enjoy early admission to the campgrounds on Thursday afternoon and music on the Mountain starting at 8 pm. Here is the official word from the University of Buffalo:

Due to the inclement weather expected in the area, the University at Buffalo is cancelling all classes & activities on Wednesday, February 2nd. As a result, the Hot Tuna Blues concert scheduled for the evening has been postponed to a new date to be announced. Original tickets will be honored on the new date or refunds will be made available at the point of purchase.

We will keep you updated with any new information that comes to us. If you have any immediate questions you can call the venue at (716) 645-6259. That’s if anybody is there. Everyone be safe.

The band just wrapped up a long anticipated debut show in Israel.  It was a great gig. The Reading 3 Club, in Tel Aviv, is an intimate and cozy venue which makes it feel just like the Fur Peace Station. The crowd was great and everyone treated us with kindness. They even presented Jorma with a birthday cake! It was delicious! Thanks to all the people who helped put this gig together. It was very special.

Here’s what one reviewer had to say..

“When the band dove into the sublime classic instrumental “Water Song,” the club was transformed into a spiritual house of secular worship.”

You can check out the entire review here.

You can also read Jorma’s blog, Cracks In The Finish, for the set list and his trip to the Ancient City.

Check out this video from the show.
