Spring Tour 2018

Acoustic Hot Tuna 2018 Spring Tour is just around the corner. Be sure to catch them at a venue near you.

Just wanted to say Thank You! to all the Hot Tuna fans who attended the 2018 Dark Star Orchestra Jam In The Sand at the Jewel Paradise Cove Resort Runaway Bay, Jamaica. We had a great time, met some really great fans and made some great music together. Want to thank the whole Dark Star Orchestra family for putting on a fantastic getaway. Thanks also to Suzy Perler for some wonderful photos from the weekend. Looking forward to seeing all your smiling faces at The Jubilee!

Lee Zimmerman from Paste Magazine recently penned a article listing his Top 10 Bass Guitarists of All-Time. At Number 8 on the list is yours truly, Jack Casady.

Here’s some of what Mr. Zimmerman had to say”

“His throbbing walking bass lines heightened the drama in such seminal standards as “White Rabbit,” “Volunteers,” “Embryonic Journey” and “Crown of Creation,” helping to launch a style that combined the complexities of jazz with a surging undertow youthful menace that help support the band’s insurgent stance.”

Yeah baby, “youthful menance!” Soon to be the title of Jack’s forthcoming auto-biography. Just kidding!

Jack is honored to be part of such an austere group of fellow “groove layers.” And humbled to have been a part of a musical history that changed the world, a musical history that continues to evolve and grow. Thank You PASTE magazine for the recognition and Thank You to all the fans that made it possible. Much Love and Respect!

Here is a video that depicts some of that youthful menance, at age 69. Not the best video, but fun none the less. Enjoy!

Low Ticket Alert! The 2018 Dark Star Orchestra Jam in the Sand is close to selling out. If you wanted to join DSO and the rest of the Jammers in Jamaica, you better act quick! Special guests Hot Tuna and Rumpke Mountain Boys will play multiple sets throughout the festival.

JAM IN THE SAND VI, returns to the all-inclusive Jewel Paradise Cove Resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica, January 18-22, 2018.

Should be Fire! Don’t Delay. Come Play!

Legendary Rock Blues Artist Hot Tuna Joins Tedeschi Trucks Band on “Wheels of Soul” Tour 2017

Tedeschi Trucks Band has announced the third installment of their wildly popular Wheels of Soul Summer Tour. The 12-piece ensemble led by husband and wife Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks will be supported on all dates by longtime friends and collaborators Hot Tuna ( Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and drummer Justin Guip) and masters of soulful folk, The Wood Brothers. The tour is scheduled to hit many of the country’s premier outdoor venues on the most ambitious Wheels of Soul tour to date July 1 through 31st, 2017. For the latest ticket on-sale information, please visit http://tedeschitrucksband.com/.

When asked about joining Wheels of Soul this year Jorma offered excitement and praise, “Tedeschi Trucks is arguably one of the greatest bands in the world today. It is an honor for me and my Hot Tuna brothers to be part of this great tour.” Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna crossed pathes with Derek and Susan early in their careers and their mutual admiration and kinship grew as Jorma supported TTB on select shows this past year.

For more than four decades, Hot Tuna has played, toured, and recorded some of the best and most memorable acoustic and electric music ever. No one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founders and continuing core members of Hot Tuna. At the 2016 Grammys, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady were honored with Lifetime Achievement awards. The two boyhood pals have wavered in one of the most enduring friendships in Rock history. They are a force in American music.

The Oakland Press deemed Wheels of Soul “The best musical hang of the season…a celebration of kindred creative spirits,” while Denver Westword calls TTB’s summer package “A wall of talent on stage.”

In case you missed it, Jack and Jorma caught fire with the Jefferson Airplane set at the GRAMMYS Salute to Musical Legends show broadcasted last week on PBS. Members of the Jefferson Airplane were honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Marty Balin was absent from the show and Grace Slick chose not to sing so it was up to Jorma and Jack to represent, and man did they ever. Their three song set was great. Check out their performance at the 38:15 mark. Watch Jorma tear into his Gibson ES-345.

Hot Tuna Starts It’s Fall Tour with three shows on the west coast. Electric Hot Tuna plays the 2016 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Music Festival on Saturday, October 1st.
